Victoria to reopen cafes and restaurants from June 1

Must Read

Victorians will be able to eat and drink inside restaurants, cafes and pubs again from June 1 as the state eases coronavirus restrictions.

Premier Daniel Andrews said hospitality venues would have to follow strict physical distancing rules as part of the reopening, with businesses allowed to serve up to 20 people indoors from the start of next month.

The limit on customers will increase to 50 from June 22 and double to 100 in the second half of July.

Tables inside venues will have to be placed 1.5 metres apart. Business owners will be required to ensure capacity doesn’t exceed one person per four square metres.

Pubs will be restricted to serving sit-down diners and won’t be allowed to open bars for alcohol service.

Customers will be required to give their name and contact details to business operators – a move designed to speed up contact tracing efforts should outbreaks occur.
