Hisar–Nanded Sahib Flight Launched to Facilitate Sikh Pilgrims

Must Read

Chandigarh | January 2026 – In a significant move aimed at supporting Sikh pilgrims, a direct flight service between Hisar (Haryana) and Nanded Sahib (Maharashtra) has been launched, making travel to Takht Sri Hazur Sahib faster and more accessible.

The new air route has been introduced ahead of major Sikh religious events, including commemorations related to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, and is expected to greatly benefit devotees who previously relied on long road or rail journeys.

60% Fare Subsidy for Pilgrims

According to officials, the Haryana government has announced a fare subsidy of up to 60% for passengers travelling on this route. The subsidy aims to ensure that the flight remains affordable, especially for elderly pilgrims and families travelling for religious purposes.

The Hisar–Nanded flight significantly reduces travel time, which earlier could take 20–24 hours by road or train, depending on connectivity.

Boost to Sikh Pilgrimage and Religious Tourism

Takht Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded is one of the five Takhts of Sikhism and holds immense religious significance as the place where Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji spent his final days.

Sikh organisations and members of the sangat have welcomed the initiative, stating that improved connectivity will:

  • Ease the burden on elderly pilgrims
  • Encourage more devotees to visit Nanded Sahib
  • Strengthen religious and cultural ties across states

Possible Expansion of Services

Officials have indicated that the success of the Hisar–Nanded route will be reviewed, and additional flights or extended services may be considered in the future based on passenger demand and pilgrim footfall.

Community Response

Many in the Sikh community have described the move as a positive step towards recognising the needs of pilgrims, while also calling for similar connectivity to other major Sikh religious sites.
