In a historic celebration, the Victorian Parliament marked the 554th parkash purab (birth anniversary) of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism on 24th November, three days ahead of the auspicious occasion on 27th November.
The event, held with reverence and cultural richness, brought together members of the Sikh community, government officials, and parliamentarians to commemorate the teachings and legacy of Guru Nanak.
The celebrations were organised by Victorian Sikh Gurduaras Council.
Distinguished guests gathered in the parliamentary chambers to pay tribute to Guru Nanak, whose principles of equality, compassion, and service resonate globally.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Hon. Ingrid Stitt MLC attended the gupurab celebrations as a guest speaker. Labor Member for Pakenham, Ms Emma Vulin, Liberal Member for Warrandyte, Ms. Nicole Werner, Liberal Member for Bulleen and Shadow Minister for Public Transport, Matthew Guy and Victorian Multicultural Commission CEO, Ms Vivian Nguyen also attended the event.
The celebration featured prayers, hymns, and reflections on Guru Nanak’s teachings, emphasizing the importance of unity and understanding in today’s diverse society.
Addressing the gathering, political leaders acknowledged the significance of Guru Nanak’s philosophy in fostering inclusivity and social harmony.
