Melbourne, 31 August 2014 – A taxi driver was killed at Brighton East when he was crushed against his taxi after it was hit by a Mitsubishi Colt sedan.

A woman in another car was also hurt. She was taken to The Alfred hospital.

Police have been searching for the Mitsubishi driver, a man believed to be in his 50s, after he ran from the scene.

The taxi driver, a 65-year-oldman from Aspendale Gardens, had been standing outside his vehicle after it was earlier involved in a minor crash with a Toyota Corolla.

The cars were stopped in the city-bound lane of the intersection of the Nepean Highway and Hawthorn Rd about 1am.

The Mitsubishi struck his vehicle about 15 minutes later, crushing the taxi driver between his taxi and the other car involved in the initial minor collision.

Police used a helicopter to search for the hit-run driver and officers also searched on foot with the help of the K9 unit.

Investigators are calling for anyone with information to contact police, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
