Sydney train derails near North Melbourne station

TRAIN passengers heading from Melbourne to Sydney have had their journey interrupted after two carriages derailed.

ABOUT 180 commuters were transferred to buses after the CountryLink train left the tracks between North Melbourne and Southern Cross station about 8.35am on Friday.

Nobody was injured and the carriages remained upright, a NSW TrainLink spokesperson said.

NSW TrainLink and Sydney trains will investigate the incident.
