Punjabi Truck Driver dies as fruit truck crashes into front yard of house in Hampton

A PUNJABI TRUCK driver Pavitar Singh Randhawa died after he crashed into the front yard of a house in Melbourne’s southeast this morning.

Police spokesman Sen-Constable Adam West said it was believed the small truck clipped a tree on Bluff Rd, Hampton about 5.40am, causing the driver to lose control.

Other reports say the fruit-delivery van hit a power pole before smashing into garbage bins along a nature strip and flipping on to the front yard of a house, damaging a 4WD in the process.

The driver of the van died at the scene.

Ambulance spokesman Paul Bentley said no one else was injured in the crash.

Bluff Rd has been closed in both directions between Summit Rd and Thomas Rd. VicRoads is advising drivers to avoid the area.

A pedestrian has also died after being hit by a truck in central Victoria this morning.

Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster said the pedestrian was struck on Three Chain Rd, Lancefield about 7am and died at the scene.
