Panj Pyaras Directs SGPC to Cancel Jathedar’s Diwali address

Amritsar – A day ahead of Sarbat Khalsa, the Panj Pyaras (five beloved ones) who were suspended and later reinstated for summoning five Takht heads, again created a stir today.

They directed the SGPC to prevent Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh from delivering the customary message from Golden Temple on Bandi Chhor Divas (Diwali).

They also cautioned the organisers that the November 10 event be considered as preparatory meeting instead of Sarbat Khalsa.

In a signed “gurmata” (religious decree), Bhai Satnam Singh Khanda, Bhai Mangal Singh, Bhai Major Singh, Bhai Satnam Singh and Bhai Tirlok Singh have directed the SGPC executive committee that the “head granthi of Golden Temple should address the sangat as Giani Gurbachan Singh has lost his credibility”.

The directions came a day after SGPC chief issued statement that only Giani Gurbachan Singh would address the community on Diwali.

Bhai Major Singh said: “In a meeting today, it was resolved that Giani Gurbachan Singh has lost the right to address the Sikh community.”
