Amritsar, October 19 – In a significant development, the All India Sikh Student Federation (AISSF) and Dal Khalsa today joined hands while aiming to work in “coordination and understanding” and struggle for independent Punjab in a peaceful and democratic manner.

Dal Khalsa president Harpal Singh Cheema, party spokesperson Kanwarpal Bittu and AISSF (Peer Mohammad) president Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad announced this today.

Saying the structure of the organisation would be announced on March 14, 2017, Peer Mohammad said till then he would work as the caretaker head of the federation. Peer Mohammad would join the Dal Khalsa hierarchy on March 14, said Cheema.

Deciding not to participate in parliamentary and Assembly elections, both organisations, however, said they would contest the SGPC general elections.

Answering media queries about the “Sarbat Khalsa” on November 10, the leaders said they would participate in it only if it were to be held as per the Sikh traditions. — TNS
