Young Punjabi Man on Spouse Visa dies in Vic car crash

Melbourne – A young man, 30 years old, Hashanpreet Singh Cheema has died and a woman has minor injuries after two cars collided in Melbourne.

The driver of one car, a man in his 30s, died at the scene and the woman driver of the other car, aged in her 50s, was taken to hospital after the crash in Truganina at 9.30am.

It is believed the deceased male was travelling east in a black Mitsubishi when it collided with a dark blue Mazda heading straight ahead at 9.30am.

As per channel 7 news, Hashanpreet was not wearing seat belt while driving.

The 32-year-old taxi driver had mounted the curb, travelled along the nature strip for around 200m and into the path of the Mazda, which was turning into St James Wood Drive.

Authorities said there was no change to his steering and no change to his acceleration. Police do not believe Mr Singh had been speeding.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman, John Mullen said the driver of the Mazda, a woman in her 50s sustained cuts, abrasions and neck soreness and was taken to hospital.

The young man belonged to Pind Mehal Kalan in Punjab. Sadly, two years ago, the deceased also lost his younger brother. The deceased was on a Spouse visa. His wife is an international student and she has two young kids to support.

Police are still establishing the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
