Key points:
- Victorians who arrive before 11:59pm Monday will be allowed to do 14 days quarantine at home, instead of in a hotel
- The Chief Health Officer says the measures are “proportionate” to the risk of extra cases popping up in Sydney
- All of regional NSW remains a “green zone”, and border residents will not need a permit to travel between states
Victoria has declared all of Sydney and the NSW Central Coast a COVID-19 “red zone”, meaning people who live in or have visited those areas since December 11 are not allowed to freely enter the state.
Visitors who travel to Victoria from those areas have to complete 14 days of mandatory hotel quarantine.
Victorian residents who recently visited or are currently in Greater Sydney or the Central Coast have an extra day to return home without completing mandatory hotel quarantine.
Victorians arriving before 11:59pm Monday can self-isolate at home for 14 days, but after that any coming from “red zone” areas will have to quarantine in a hotel.
“That is a special arrangement for those from Victoria coming back to Victoria,” Premier Daniel Andrews said on Sunday.
“If you are not from Victoria and you arrive after midnight tonight [Sunday], then you will go into mandatory hotel quarantine.
“The door will close for home quarantine for Victorians on midnight Monday night.”
Everyone coming into Victoria from NSW has to obtain a permit.
