In the midst of reports following censor board’s decision to ban director Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab, which is based on Punjab’s crucial drug abuse problem, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap cleared the air surrounding the controversy.
So the film’s co-producer, Anurag Kashyap had to take charge and clarify the situation. Anurag tweeted “For the record, Udta Punjab is not banned. The examining committee has deferred the decision to Revising and due process is on.”

He further added, “And due process takes it own time, so please abstain for spreading a BAN rumour. There is nothing to speak on the subject as of now. A film is banned only when examining, revising and (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal) FCAT — all three refuse certificate. And then you fight it out in Supreme Court.“
Fans across the world have been upset with reports of the much-awaited Udta Punjab being banned due to excessive swearing and drug consumption. Even the hashtag ‘We Want Udta Punjab‘ has been trending as people are posting pleas and frustrated messages all over social media.
The Abhishek Chaubey-directed film also stars Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh and is set to release on June 17.
