Blacktown City Council has given the green light for the Australian Sikh Association to host its annual Nagar Kirtan in Glenwood on Sunday, 5 October 2025.
The approval follows recommendations from the Local Transport Forum and an Extraordinary Meeting of Council, with strict conditions in place to ensure public safety and minimise local disruption. The parade will begin at the Glenwood Gurdwara on Meurants Lane and run for one hour.
Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting welcomed the outcome, which was finalised in collaboration with NSW Police and the Glenwood Sikh community.
“Blacktown City is proud to support our Sikh community in celebrating the Nagar Kirtan parade in Glenwood,” Mayor Bunting said. “This event is a wonderful expression of culture and faith in our diverse city. I commend the cooperation shown by the organisers and NSW Police to ensure it can proceed safely for everyone.”
The approval comes with a comprehensive traffic management plan developed by Council, NSW Police and Transport for NSW. Measures include advance notification to local residents and emergency services, temporary parking restrictions, overflow parking supported by shuttle buses, and accredited traffic controllers managing road closures.
Superintendent Jason Joyce, Commander of Riverstone Police Area Command, emphasised safety as the top priority.
“NSW Police have worked closely with Council and the organisers to ensure the Nagar Kirtan parade can proceed safely,” Superintendent Joyce said. “With the agreed traffic management and crowd safety measures in place, we are confident the event will be a positive and enjoyable occasion for the community.”
Nishan Singh, Secretary of the Glenwood Gurdwara, thanked Council and NSW Police for their support.
“This parade is a significant celebration for the Sikh community and an opportunity to share our traditions with the wider community in a safe and inclusive way,” Mr Singh said.
The Nagar Kirtan marks the birth anniversary, or Gurpurab, of Guru Ram Das Ji and is expected to draw hundreds of participants and visitors.
