Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur on Saturday confirmed that Congress spokesman and former MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira would soon formally join the party.

Chhotepur, while addressing a group of mediapersons in Mohali, said the party had already conveyed it to AAP national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was open to the idea of having Khaira in the outfit.

Chhotepur said the party had not promised or offered any post or position to Khaira, who had agreed to work like any other worker to strengthen the outfit in Punjab.

Chhotepur said the only delay in Khaira’s joining the AAP was that the latter first had to resign from the primary membership of the Congress to which he had been associated for more than 18 years.

Chhotepur said the party had already taken an office in Sector 71 in Mohali from where it would oversee its entire activities and operations across the state.

Chhotepur claimed that there were many leaders from both the SAD-BJP alliance and the Congress who were constantly in touch with him and were eager to jon the AAP sensing a groundswell in favour of the party.

Meanwhile, sources said Khaira would resign from the Congress next week.
