Sufi Singer Kanwar Grewal under lens for Murder conspiracy

Must Read

A promoter of Punjabi Sufi singer Kanwar Grewal has been booked by the Ludhiana police while another promoter and the singer himself are “under the scanner” after Rajinder Singh, owner of a music production company, alleged that they were planning to get him killed.

Curiously, first the police mentioned the singer and both promoters — Rakesh Kaushal alias Rocky, Harminder Singh Virk alias Raja — as accused in the FIR. Later, police kept only Rocky’s name and said Virk and Grewal were wrongly mentioned in the ‘accused’ column. Inspector Pavittar Singh, station house officer (SHO), Moti Nagar, said the case has been registered against only Rocky, “while the roles of Raja Virk and Kanwar Grewal are to be investigated”.

Complainant Rajinder of Finetone Cassette Company has stated that after he released Grewal’s album ‘Akhan’ in 2013, he had a two-year contract with him. The deal was for Rs 1 crore of which he had paid Rs 27 lakh to Grewal, said Rajinder. But, when he scheduled music concerts in the US through Rocky and Raja, they “ditched” him and kept him “out of the scene, voiding the terms of the contract”. He has said they started threatening him after he made a police complaint, and pointedly alleged that “contract killers” told him over the phone that they would throw acid on him and his family members. He recorded the conversation and filed a complaint in June this year. After investigation, the case was now registered.

When contacted, Harjinder Singh Chahal, cousin and um manager of Grewal, said it was “merely a complaint” and he did want to say anything on it.
