New York: As Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to visit USA to meet with President Obama, Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), a human rights group, have announced to carry out a protest on the 30th September.

Sikh groups plan to hold a “justice rally” in front of the White House on Friday as Mr. Obama sits down with his Indian counterpart, a meeting expected to focus heavily on the trade relationship between the two countries.

According to Sikhs for Justice Facebook page: “Sikh community will gather in thousands at White house on Sept 30th, reminding President Obama that upholding the religious freedom principle of US constitution is more important than signing business deals with those who pose threat to religious minorities.

In a press release, SFJ said,“Narendra Modi’s visa was cancelled/revoked by the United States government in 2005 for his involvement in serious human rights violations during 2002 massacre in the state of Gujarat while he was the chief minister of that state.”

More than one hundred Sikh Organisations operating in the US have forged an alliance to picket the White House.”

More than 80 percent of the world’s 27 million Sikhs live in India, although they make up an estimated 2 percent or less of India’s overall population.
