Amritsar Sahib, 31 August 2014 (SS) – The 19th Martyrdom anniversary of the Sikh National Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh Babbar was observed at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar by the Sikh Nation.
Various Sikh organizations including Dal Khalsa, Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Damdami Taksal, SAD (Amritsar), Akali Dal Panch Pardhani and Sadh Sangat from across the country were present during Shaheedi Smagam held at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in memory of Bhai Dilawar Singh.
Bhai Dilawar Singh’s brother Chamkaur Singh was also present on this occasion and was honoured with a siropa by Head Granthi Sri Darbar Sahib, Giani Jagtar Singh ji.
It needs to be noted that Bhai Dilawar Singh Babbar was posthumously bestowed the title of ‘Qaumi Shaheed’ or “National Martyr” by Sri Akal Takht Sahib for his role in bringing the tyrant Beant Singh to justice. Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest seat of Sikh religious and temporal authority.
In the 1990s, Beant Sinh was responsible for unleashing state sponsored terrorism against the Sikh community that resulted countless human rights violations and the ruthless murder of thousands of youths across Punjab, many of whom are still unaccounted for till this day.
