Fatehgarh Sahib, March 9, 2014 – Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, son of Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh, one of the two assassins of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, Sunday joined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the presence of Parkash Singh Jadali, the president of Punjab unit of party.

Sarabjit was early associated with Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) led by former MP Simranjit Singh Mann.

Party sources have indicated that Sarabjit Singh Khalsa is likely to be fielded from Fatehgarh Sahib (Reserve) constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Thirty-four year old Sarabjit, however said that he has joined BSP unconditionally and he would leave it to the party to decide about his political future. He said that he was fed up with the policies of hardliner groups including Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and has therefore decided to join BSP as it truly represents the interests of the Dalits in the country.

It may be recalled that Sarabjit Singh Khalsa had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections in 2007 on the SAD (Amritsar) ticket. He had also fought Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections in 2007 for the same party but lost.

It is pertinent to mention here that Khalsa’s father Beant Singh and his fellow security guard Satwant Singh who were in the security of former prime minister Indira Gandhi had assassinated her on October 31, 1984.
