The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has allowed the Punjab government to play the movie Chaar Sahibzaade for free on the 51 publicity vans that will propagate its “achievements”.
The animated movie is based on the lives of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh guru. Ruled by the SAD(B), the SGPC was criticised for buying the rights to the movie from producer Harry Baweja for Rs 4 crore and that too just months after the movie’s release. SGPC claimed that it had brought rights of movie to produce the DVDs for free distribution among public.
BDPO objects to Badals’ photos, shifted
Recently, Abohar Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Baljit Kaur Dhillon had objected to putting up pictures of Akali leaders along with the Gurus of ‘Chaar Sahibzaade’. Within 12 hours of her public objection on Facebook to the move, she was transferred to Chandigarh for unknown reasons.
Dhillon, who was appointed as BDPO in 2000, told media, “On July 3, when I saw the publicity van showing ‘Chaar Sahibzaade’ at Abohar and pictures of political figures alongside, I was perturbed. I wrote about my hurt feelings on Facebook the next day. Only few hours of my post on Facebook, I was transferred from Abohar to Chandigarh. I also learnt that a senior Akali Dal leader directed the rural development department officials to pull me out from the field posting. I am not bothered about my transfer. I can even sacrifice my job but can’t tolerate the belittling of Sahibzaadas (sons of Guru Gobind Singh).”
Dhillon said that father Jaswant Singh was killed by terrorists in the late-1990s and her family was highly religious. Prayers of Guru Granth Sahib were held regularly at her residence, she added.
