Former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his son Sukhbir Singh Badal and daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal today sought forgiveness at Harmandir Sahib for “mistakes that might have been committed inadvertently during their rule”.
Sukhbir Badal showed up for the religious ceremony with an untied flowing beard. The Badals and Bikram Majithia, along with other SAD leaders, did sewa at the Joda Ghar (where shoes of visitors are kept).
It is also Parkash Singh Badal’s birthday. Earlier, Akhand Path (three-day long uninterrupted reciting of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji) was initiated at Golden Temple premises on Saturday.
He said that the new political stance of apology is being played by Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Majithia to save the party’s deteriorating image among Sikh community and parliamentary election.
The sewa will continue for 3 days till December 10. It will include other activities as well, including langar sewa and cleaning the premises of the Golden Temple. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Bibi Jagir Kaur and other women leaders were seen performing sewa at the langar in the afternoon.
Seeking forgiveness only a political drama – Brahmpura
Rebel Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and MP Ranjit Singh Brahmpura issuing a press statement said in a statement that since the command of the Shiromani Akali Dal has come under Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia, SAD has start going towards downfall. Due to the mistakes of both, the Sikh Panth has been facing tremendous adversity and there is deep resentment in the Sikh community around the world.
Brahmpura said that Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia have now started to realise their mistakes. The decision was taken in the committee to to ask for forgiveness at Akala Takhat Sahib on December 8 for the mistakes done during the reign of Sukhbir and Majithia, whole leadership is going to Takht Sahib to apologise, although this news has been received through the newspapers. He said when he proposed a proposal that Sukhbir and Majithia should apologise for their crimes why it was ignored at that time, now this apology is just drama.
The ‘paath’ commenced in the presence of SAD’s core committee members, former ministers, MLAs, halqa in-charges and SGPC members.
