Though the organisers of Sarbat Khalsa are yet to get permission for holding the November 10 event in Talwandi Sabo, the government has deployed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the town as a precautionary measure.
“Ten companies of the CRPF have been deployed in the town. One company has already reached Talwandi Sabo while others will be arriving in the night,” said superintendent of police (operations), Gurmeet Singh.
One company consists of around 80 personnel. The administration has already turned the town into a fortress by deploying police force ahead of the congregation.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has issued a terror alert, saying some terror groups in Pakistan have contacted militant sympathisers to cash in on the “Sarbat Khalsa”.
Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora said, “The companies are deployed in Bathinda and Talwandi Sabo. The police are up for the job. No one will be allowed to disturb law and order.”
The state had sought 15 companies from the Centre last month, as there was a threat to law and order in view of the festival season and the “Sarbat Khalsa”. The police have alerted their field staff to step up vigil following the terror alert from the IB.
