Amritsar Sahib – In a historic Sikh congregation Sarbat Khalsa on Tuesday, sacked various Akal Takht Jathedars including Giani Gurbachan Singh and appointed Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara as new Akal Takht Jathedar.
In absence of Bhai Hawara, Dhain Singh Mand, former Lok Sabha MP from Punjab, was appointed as an interim jathedar of Akal Takht.
The new Jathedars will converge at the Akal Takht tomorrow and address the Sikh Sangat.
The Sarbat Khalsa organized at Baba Naudh Singh Gurdwara in Chabba today amid heavy security and a historic gathering of nearly 3 lakhs Sikh Sangat was present there.
Sarbat Khalsa accused the incumbent Sikh head priests, appointed by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, of not keeping up the dignity and traditions of Sikh institutions .
Sarbat Khalsa which was attended by SAD (A) leader Simranjit Singh Mann, United Akali Dal president Bhai Mohakam Singh and various other Sikh leaders from across the country, has reportedly passed resolution to remove Akal Takht Keshgarh Sahib and Damdama Sahib Jathedars. There were reports that Sikhs from across the world had arrived in Chabba, the village of Dera Baba Naudh Singh to participate in the religious congregation.
In the congregation, Amrik Singh Ajnala has been appointed as Jathedar Akal Takht Keshgarh Sahib while Baljeet Singh Daduwal has been appointed Jathedar of Damdama Sahib.
Punjab BSP president Avtar Singh Karimpuri also attended the event and said that his party stands with the Sikhs community.
Addressing the congregation, various Sikh leaders blamed the Parkash Singh Badal-led government for the sacrilege incidents across the state. They also urged people to support the decision taken by the Khalsa Panth.
