UP resident arrested after Golden Temple Bomb threat

Amritsar Sahib – A UP man who had threatened to blow up the sarai of Golden Temple has been arrested by the Amritsar City Police.

Amritsar police commissioner J S Aulakh said on Friday that they had arrested Kamal Verma, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, who had made the hoax call to the manager of Golden Temple Partap Singh asking for cash and had also threatened to blow up the sarai.

According to TOI News, it was revealed during preliminary investigations, that Kamal was on a visit to Amritsar, when someone stole his handbag having a mobile set, said Aulakh. Kamal was upset with the poor security around Golden Temple and wanted the police to pay attention and made the hoax call. “He managed to find the number of manager from the directory and made the threatening call,” said Aulakh.

The police traced him through the call details. They also managed to get his photograph from his Whatsapp account. He was arrested from Guru Ram Dass Sarai.

Jatinder Singh Aulakh, Police Commissioner, said the accused had been residing at the sarai for the past fortnight. Following the call, security was beefed up around the Golden Temple. The SGPC had restricted the pilgrims from carrying handbags inside the shrine.
