Brisbane – According to a recent news by BrisbaneTimes, Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart has co-signed an open letter, condemning “abhorrent” acts of racial and religious violence.
The letter which is also signed by members of the Police Ethnic Advisory Group and the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, encouraged Queenslanders to report acts of racial or religious vilification to the police or the Anti-Discrimination Commission, condemns recent acts of vilification in Australia.
The letter clearly mentions how the minorities of the Australian population including Sikhs are being singled out and vilified because of their appearance or religious attire
The letter is an excellent move by the Queensland Police Service (QPS) Commissioner Ian Stewart, Anti Discrimination Queensland (ADCQ) Commissioner Kevin Cocks and the Police Ethnic Advisory Group.
As Sikhs, our appearance with Turbans and Beards is often mistaken for those who cause terror around the world. Sikhs are a law abiding community and to be associated as such is very insulting to the Sikhs.
The QPS Commissioner has clearly condemned acts of racial and religious violence and recents acts of vilification across Australia.
The Commissioner has also called for reporting of such incidents to the QPS and ADCQ.
