Punjabi Singer Raj Brar dies after alcohol intoxication

Punjabi Singer, actor, lyricist and music director Raj Brar passed away today, in a Sector-32 Government Hospital in Chandigarh.

The reason of death is known to be alcohol intoxication. His birthday was soon approaching on January 3rd and turning 45.

Originally from Malke Village, Moga District,Brar had shot into limelight after his debut as singer in 1992. But in later years, he had become an alcoholic and he had, on many occasions, had admitted the fact. He made his acting debut with the Punjabi movie ‘Jawani Zindabad’ and was also seen in the 2014 film ‘Police in Pollywood’.

The shooting of his movie, Jamure, had ended recently. Punjabi singer Ashok Masti recalls his meeting with Brar a few months ago in Mohali.

I met him at his place. We sat together for a long time, talking about his lyrics.” Masti said he had requested the singer to quit drinking.

Brar’s body has been taken to his village and his ceremonial adieu shall take place around 3-4 January.

Music director Sachin Ahuja said Brar failed to kick the drinking habit despite treatment. “He was an excellent lyricist,” he said.
