Chandigarh: The Punjab government has renamed the historic town of Anandpur Sahib, the birth place of Khalsa panth as Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal today announced that religiously and historically important town Anandpur Sahib would be now known as Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Speaking at a public function, Sukhbir Badal said a notification in this regard would be issued within a week.
It may be mentioned here that Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal on the occasion of 350th foundation anniversary celebrations had announced to rename it as Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Sri Anandpur Sahib
Sri Anandpur Sahib was founded by Guru Tegh Bahadur in June 1665 AD on a piece of land purchased from the Raja of Bilaspur. Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, one of the five takhts of highest religious authority for Sikhs, and several other holy shrines are located here. Having been the abode of the last two Gurus of the Sikhs for two score years, the town was witness to many a momentous event of Sikh history.
