Punjab hockey player Satnam Singh killed in a car fire accident

LUDHIANA: A 25 year old state level hockey player of Punjab identified as Satnam Singh was killed in a car fire near non operational Sahnewal airport on GT road national  highway.

The deceased has been identified as Satnam Singh, 27, of Mandi Ahmedgarh. He was a hockey player and was the only son of his parents. His death has been described to be a great loss to state hockey.

The police had registered a case against unidentified persons under section 304A of Indian Penal Code.

The accident occurred on the national highway near Sahnewal. It was suspected that the gas tank caught fire after being hit by a truck.

Till the time the police reached the spot, the victim was burnt alive. The police recovered the charred body of the victim.

The victim had gone to attend a wedding in Ludhiana, dropped his friends at Dehlon and was returning to Khanna.

According to the police, they got a call from the marriage palace situated on the national highway that a truck had hit a car and the car had caught fire. When they reached the spot, the car was totally burnt and the victim was dead. The fire brigade reached the spot and it took almost 30 minutes to douse the flames.

Inspector Anil Bhanot, SHO at Sahnewal police station, said from the preliminary investigations, it was suspected that some heavy vehicle had hit the car from the back. After being hit, the gas tanker started leaking and it caught fire.

The body was sent to Civil Hospital for a post-mortem, but from there it was sent to Medical College, Patiala.

The police had registered a case against unidentified persons under section 304A of IPC, Singh added.
