JALANDHAR: Taking a cue from controversy around cancellation of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal’s visit to Canada following rights bodies threatening legal action against him for protecting police officials, who indulged in serious human rights violations, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa said that the state government was protecting the violators.
“Badal government is running away from investigating serious disclosures made by Punjab police Sub inspector Surjit Singh that he eliminated 83 persons even without knowing their guilt. State government should get these serious disclosures investigated. Why should it run away from investigating it,” Bajwasaid while talking to mediapersons here after addressing a rally in Jalandhar Cantt constituency.
“Now Sukhbir has cancelled his trip to Canada knowing that here they were protecting the guilty police officials and he could face trouble and embaraasment there for it. Initially they sent some police officials to Canada who tried to win over the elements raising the issue human rights violations in Punjab and protection to violators by SAD-BJP government. After they failed to win them over and reported back Sukhbir cancelled his trip as it could have landed him in soup,” Bajwa claimed.
“When Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was out of power he would project himself to be the biggest messiah of Sikhs and would raise Panthic issues but after coming to power he forgets Sikhs and all their issues,” Bajwa said. “If similar allegations would have come out when Badals were out of power they would have made mountain of it but now they were remaining silent and ducking every responsibility,” held the PPCC president.
Meanwhile Bajwa said that their party would pursue legal action against Taran Taran SSP Rajjit Singh and Hoshiarpur DC for former getting a certificate from the latter declaring himself “dead” while trying to ensure a seat for his daughter in a medical college. “Government has not taken any action when bluff of the SSP had been exposed and now we shall pursue legal action against them,” he said.
