Fatehgarh Sahib – The Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann Group) had to cancel a seminar on “Khalistan and its impact” after police swung into suppressive action and locked the gates of the seminar venue and rounded up Mann’s supporters
High drama was witnessed at Sirhind today as the district administration refused permission to Simranjit Singh Mann, president SAD (A), to hold the seminar.
A hall at Krishna Palace for the above seminar was booked in Sirhind at a cost and langar was organised as well. In this seminar heads of various religions were invited so that their doubts regarding Khalistan could be removed.
The police led by two Deputy Superintendents of Police along with about a hundred armed constables was deployed outside the residence of Mann at Talania village to prevent him from marching towards the venue.
The order of the Deputy Commissioner delivered by HS Sandhu, DSP, Fatehgarh Sahib to Simranjit Singh Mann today said authorities had “received information from relevant individuals” that the event “may allow individuals with ill intention to create a [negative] situation and cause unrest, and may lead to a violation of the laws, and will not be appropriate under the current situation.”
HS Sandhu, DSP, Fatehgarh Sahib, handed over a copy of the orders of the Deputy Commissioner denying permission to Mann to hold the seminar. Mann and his supporters lodged a protest against the move.
Mann alleged the SAD-BJP government was resorting to illegal means to allow him to share his views on Khalistan. He along with his supporters has been under house arrest in Fatehgarh Sahib.
He claimed when Baba Ramdev was not allowed to hold his discourse in Delhi, the SC took suo motu notice and summoned the Delhi Police to explain their conduct.
