New Delhi: After leading Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to its best ever performance, in the process orchestrating an unprecedented rout of the incumbent Congress Party,Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is all set to sworn as India’s 18th Prime Minister on May 21, according to television reports.
Though the final figures are expected to be revealed by 4 PM, the trends are heavily in favour of BJP, which appears all set to break the 300-seat barrier. If it manages to do so, it will be the biggest win in country’s electoral history since Rajiv Gandhi’s stupendous result in 1984. Then, riding a sympathy wave in the aftermath of the assassination of his mother and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Congress raked up a tally of 413 seats- the best ever in India’s political history.
Modi will be India’s first OBC Prime Minister, and twelfth non-Gandhi politician to emerge as an elected head of government to lead world’s largest democracy. While speculations are on regarding his possible cabinet, reports of senior party leader Sushma Swaraj being miffed with allocation of Ministries emerged on Thursday.
Swaraj, who is currently leading from Vidisha, was reported to have pitched for one of top four ministries, while party patriarch L K Advani is touted to succeed Meira Kumar as Lok Sabha Speaker.
All these speculations, however, are expected to be put to rest soon with BJP, after winding up customary celebrations, is likely to get back to the drawing board to decide on its cabinet.
