AMRITSAR SAHIB (March 26, 2015)—The recent controversial appreciation letter expressing support to the film-makers of ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, which had gone viral over social media, has now come to the fore after a new fresh statement by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.
The letter written on the letter of Sri Akal Takht Sahib is signed by Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh with reference number 3936 dated January 22, 2015.
The letter states, “You are making a film on Guru Nanak Dev Ji and his life events, for which you deserve appretiation. This is a good medium of spreading Sikh religion. May Miri-Peeri de Malak Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji grant to you Chardi Kala and well being, so that you could succeed in having the effort fruitful with right spirits.”
Although, Harinder Singh Sikka has claimed that the role of Guru Nanak Sahib is animated in the film, but one of the artists, Adil Hasan, has clarified that the role was played by Harish Khanna. The film does not show Guru Sahib’s face, and shows only his back and hands.
It is worth mentioning that at beginning of film’s trailer available on Youtube, Sri Akal Takht Sahib is thanked for supporting the film. However, Takht’s Jathedar recently denied any such support to the anti-Sikh movie. Now, the letter has exposed all the matter.
In reference to the letter, the Jathedar has now stated that whenever somebody informs Akal Takht’s jathedar regarding any project related to Sikh religion and history, he is sent a routine letter in view of their sentiments are encouraged.
According to Sikh24, Giani Gurbachan Singh clarified that he was told that there is no human actor representing Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and it is an animated movie similar to the ‘Chaar Sahibzaade”. So, he said, the letter was to appreciate the effort, but not a clean chit to the movie.
In addition, Shiroamni Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Avtar Singh Makkar has termed the movie as “intolerable”.
