Amritsar — The Modi-government has appointed Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar as its brand ambassador for the ambitious ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan‘, which is currently underway across the nation.
Makkar, while thanking the central government, assured the SGPC will involve itself in the cleanliness drive wholeheartedly.
In a statement issued here on Friday, SGPC additional secretary Daljit Singh Bedi on Friday said that in accordance with the directions of Makkar, the SGPC will seek participation of the Sikh ‘sangat’ in this drive.
Bedi said SGPC had already involved voluntary organizations in maintaining cleanliness in toilets and bathrooms in historic gurdwara complexes. He further said Royal King Sewa Foundation Trust, Ludhiana, was entrusted with the repair and maintenance of bathroom blocks on Ghanta Ghar side and Sri Guru Ram Das Sarai in Golden Temple complex and at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh. He said the trust had also taken up the ‘sewa’ (voluntary service) at Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib, Amritsar; Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib; and Anandpur Sahib.
