The Sikh Community of Melbourne has come forward to help victims of the recent massive Bunyip bushfire devastation.
The Bunyip fire was started by lightning strikes in the Bunyip State Park on Friday and burned over 11,000 hectares, destroying at least seven properties as it moved south over the weekend.
In response to these recent bushfires, charity group Sikh Volunteers Australia came forward and distributed free cooked vego food and water bottles at the Pakenham relief centre. As per their Facebook page, the charity will be distributing cooked food and water again taking into consideration the volume of victims in the relief centre.
Another group of Sikh volunteers from Gurduara Baba Budha ji Pakenham have also come forward and offered free taxi and food service to the victims. If you need to buy an open fryer, you can buy it from here!
There is a huge support from entire Sikh community in Melbourne. Many individuals are also responding to the situation and making donations for this cause.
Local MP Jason Wood and Cardinia Shire Council has thanked the generosity and efforts of Sikh community during this time of need.
Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp said despite the improved conditions, with 19 fires burning across the state, firefighters could not become complacent.
