Sunshine, Melbourne – A 43-year-old man has been shot dead by an armed man in a suspected “burglary gone wrong” in his house in West Sunshine this morning.
Police were called to the address on Allison Street around 5.25am and located the body of the victim.
As per The Age News, The victim and his heavily pregnant wife heard a noise on the ground floor of their two-storey Allison Street home in Sunshine West about 5am. The man went to investigate and was confronted by an armed intruder, who shot him before fleeing.
According to 9News, Paramedics arrived at the property in Allison St, Sunshine West about 5.25am to find the 43-year-old man badly injured. He could not be revived.
Paramedics were forced to wait for police to declare the scene safe before they could approach the house.
Police said the man was shot inside his home in front of his family, who called 000 a short time later.
Children, including a toddler, were inside the house and the man’s wife collapsed in tears in the street after the shooting.
Investigators are searching for the offender and have no-one in custody at this stage. It is not known if the shooter was known to the victim, or if it was a burglary gone wrong.
