Melbourne commemorates the 40 years of 1978 Shaheeds

MELBOURNE – The Vaisakhi of 1978 was a landmark in recent Sikh History. 13 Sikhs were martyred whilst peacefully protesting against the heretical Nirankari Gurbachna’s heinous cult’s display of disrespect to Sikhi and great Gursikhs. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of sacrifice of these great 13 Shaheeds, 4-days akhand kirtan smagam were organised in Melbourne.

The Akhand Kirtan Smagam was held at Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Craigieburn and Dal Baba Bidhi Chand Khalsa Shaouni Plumpton.

Sangat from all over Australia attended the smagam in big numbers. Besides local kirtaniyas from Australia, Bhai Nanak Singh ji (UK), Bhai Ranjit Singh Jammu (USA), Bhai Satnam Singh ji (Gurdaspur) and Bhai Rasvinder Singh ji (Malaysia) also joined this year smagam for kirtan sewa.

A special photo-exhibition displaying the story-line of 1978 Amritsar Massacre and 13 Shaheeds was displayed at various Gurdwaras. There was a special documentary on the life of Bhai Fauja Singh screened during the smagams.

Amrit Sanchar was also held and a total of 40 were blessed to take Amrit dee daat at the smagams.
