Khadoor Sahib – The nomination papers of Bhai Baldeep Singh for the Khadoor Sahib by polls were rejected by the presiding elections officials on Thursday.
With Congress and AAP not fighting the election, Bhai Baldeep Singh was the only remaining candidate with a fighting chance against SAD candidate Ravinder Brahmpura.
The returning officer said, the vote of Bhai Baldeep was not registered in Punjab because of which his nomination stands cancelled.
Notably, on Wednesday when Bhai Baldeep had filed the nomination, he was asked to submit proof of vote in the state by Thursday afternoon. As he failed to fulfill the requirement, his nomination was cancelled on Thursday.
Reacting to this, Bhai Baldeep said, “It is murder of democracy and conspiracy of the ruling SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab that did not want me to contest the polls.”
Meanwhile, Ravinder denied political influence in the decision, arguing that he had taken the step as per rules of the election commission.
Notably, after the AAP and Congress backed out the bypoll, Bhair Baldeep was being seen as a major challenge to the SAD candidate Ravinder Brahmpura.
