The main accused, Parvinder Singh alias Shally alias Bhindi of Central Town, is son of Narinder Singh’s elder brother. The other two accused are Rajwinder Singh alias Raja of Harnam Nagar and Arshdeep Singh Gill of Shalimar Avenue. All three recently passed Class XII examination and were preparing for IELTS to go abroad on a study visa.

Rajinder Singh, SSP, said Shally’s father Jaspal Singh had reportedly suffered huge losses in business. “Shally orchestrated the crime along with his two friends as he was jealous of the prosperous business of Jaskirat’s father, who owns a belt manufacturing unit in Kapurthala, while his own father was employed in a private company on a meagre salary. The accused had planned to utilise the Rs 30 lakh ransom money to go abroad,” he said.

The accused told the police that they had learnt several “tricks” from TV serial Crime Patrol.

On April 11, the day of kidnapping, Shally bought new clothes and sunglasses to hide his identification. He stopped Jaskirat who was on his way to tuition. After taking the custody of his scooter, he told Jaskirat to sit in Raja’s car. Raja forced Jaskirat to inhale some substance which made him unconscious. He then strangulated him with a rope. After Jaskirat died, the accused stuffed his body in a sack and dumped it in a house at Fatudhinga. The house was taken on a monthly rent of Rs 3,000 by the accused for spending time with their girlfriends.

Meanwhile, Shally abandoned Jaskirat’s scooter on Hamira GT road which was later recovered by the police. After killing Jaskirat, Arshdeep made a ransom call from a mobile phone which they had snatched from a labourer. On April 12, the accused dumped the body at Fatehabad village in TarnTaran district, which was recovered by the police on April 13.
