Innocent Gursikh Dapinder Singh from UK arrested by Amritsar Police

AMRITSAR – Dapinder Singh, 29, a United Kingdom Sikh national is among the total 31 youth arrested by the Amritsar Police at Golden Temple complex.

Violent clashes broke out between a group of people and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Task Force in Amritsar on Saturday afternoon on the 31st anniversary of Operation Blue Star that led to the arrest of Dapinder Singh who hails from Derby in UK.

Jatinder Singh Aulakh, Commissioner of Police confirmed the arrest of Dapinder Singh who he said has been sent to the jail. He said the moment they came to know that he is an NRI and UK national they informed UK High Commission in India and gave all the details about the arrest. “Dapinder is UK national and he has been arrested. The infromation has been given to the UK High Commission regarding this”, he said .

According to police, Dapinder Singh had come to Amritsar on June 4 night and was staying at a private hotel near the Golden Temple and was moving throughout the day near the Akal Takal Takht and when the group was united they clashed with the SGPC task force.  He belongs to village Goraya near Ludhiana and his parents had migrated to London a few years back. the police has already registered a case under 107 and 151 of IPC Act against the youth who were presented before the duty magistrate JS Walia who sent them to jail today.

NAPA seeks release of Dapinder Singh

US Based North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has strongly condemned the arrest of innocent Gursikh Dapinder Singh who hails from Derby of United Kingdom. Dalwinder Singh Dhoot Chairman of the Association sought immediate release of Dapinder Singh. Dhoot said that Dapinder was in Amritsar for 31st-anniversary commemoration programs of Indian Army Invasion of Darbar Sahib. Dhoot in a letter to British High Commissioner in New Delhi sought intervention for the release of Dapinder Singh
