A Mohali court rejected the bail plea of former Punjab police chief Sumedh Singh Saini in the alleged kidnapping and murder of Balwant Singh Multani case.
Saini has now the option of moving the high court. The public prosecutor sought the arrest of the former DGP to probe the Balwant Singh Multani case.
The Mohali police and the Special Operations Group raided Saini’s Sector-20 house on Thursday, Saini’s counsel APS Deol had moved the bail application in the court on Friday morning.
Mohali Deputy Superintendent of Police (Detective) Bikramjit Singh led the raid, however, Saini was not found at home.
The court had reserved orders for a day on Thursday on interim bail application of Sumedh Saini.
Sumedh Saini and six other police officers were booked in a 29-year-old case of the alleged kidnapping, torture and murder of Balwant Singh Multani, son of former IAS officer Darshan Singh Multani.
Saini was the Chandigarh senior superintendent of police in 1991. Multani was allegedly booked by the police after an attack on Saini. But the police later claimed that Balwant escaped from the custody of Qadian (Gurdaspur) police.
The others booked along with Saini are DSP Baldev Singh, Sub-Inspectors Satbir Singh, Harsahai, Jagir Singh, Anoop Singh, and ASI Kuldeep Singh.
