Giani Raghbir Singh, who was serving as the Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, has been today appointed as Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Sri Amritsar, in a meeting of the executive committee (EC) presided over by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami.
It has also been decided to appoint Giani Sultan Singh as Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib in the meeting of the SGPC’s EC.
Talking to the media after the EC meeting, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, was serving as an acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, so today the EC decided to appoint Giani Raghbir Singh as Jathedar. He said that the Sikh community was continuously demanding to appoint a Jathedar instead of the acting Jathedar and Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has also agreed to this appointment.
Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the EC also decided to appoint Giani Sultan Singh, Granthi (priest) of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib as Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. The SGPC President said that Giani Raghbir Singh has also been given the additional charge of Head Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib. Similarly, Giani Sultan Singh will also continue his service as a Granthi at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib.
Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the EC has also fully appreciated the services rendered by Giani Harpreet Singh as the acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Those present in the meeting included SGPC senior vice-president Baldev Singh Qaimpuri, junior vice-president Avtar Singh Raya, general secretary Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal, SGPC EC members Mohan Singh Bangi, Jarnail Singh Kartarpur, Surjit Singh Tughalwal, Bawa Singh Gumanpura, Bibi Gurinder Kaur Bholuwal, Gurnam Singh Jasal, Paramjit Singh Khalsa, Sher Singh Mandwala, Baba Gurpreet Singh Randhawa, Bhupinder Singh Assandh, Malkit Singh Changal, SGPC secretary Partap Singh, assistant secretary Shahbaz Singh, and in-charge Azaddeep Singh.

Giani Raghbir Singh, appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, is a resident of Sultanwind village of Sri Amritsar. He started his service as Granthi Singh in 1989 and served at various places till 1995. From 1995 to April 2014 served among the Panj Piaras (five beloved ones) at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Meanwhile, on April 21, 2014, he was appointed as the Granthi at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, and on August 24, 2017, he took over the service as acting Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. It has been decided to appoint Giani Raghbir Singh as Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib today on June 16, 2023, by the Executive Committee of SGPC.

Giani Sultan Singh, appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib, is currently serving as Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib. Giani Sultan Singh joined as Granthi Singh in 2008 and took charge as Ardasiya (one who offers Sikh prayer) at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib in 2015. Giani Sultan Singh, who was appointed as the Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib in the year 2021, has been appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in a decision by the Executive Committee of SGPC today on June 16, 2023.
