Melbourne – The first of its kind library named after great Sikh Scholar Giani Ditt Singh was inaugurated today in Hoppers Crossing.
Giani Ditt Singh was not only a scholar, poet and journalist but also was an eminent Singh Sabha reformer and editor. Giani Ditt Singh wielded a powerful pen and was equally at home in prose as well as in verse. He wrote more than forty books and pamphlets on Sikh theology and history and on current polemics. Well-known among his works are: Guru Nanak Prabodh, Guru Arjan Chariltar, Dambh Bidaran, Durga Prabodh, Panth Prabodh, RajPrabodh, Mera ate Sadhu Dayanand da Sambad, Naqh SiAh Prabodh and Panth Sudhar Binai Pattar.
The inauguration was done by Melbourne based Bapu Pritam Singh Prem, who has also written several books and articles.
The library has been setup with the efforts of Melbourne based Bhai Ramandeep Singh ji and Gurtej Singh of Qaumi Awaaz Radio. More than 1000 books have been added to start up the library. A minimal fees of $20 per year has been fixed so as to buy additional titles to the library.
The library is setup as non-for-profit purposes and is open to all Sikh Sangat and those who have respect for Punjabi sahit. The library will work with collaboration of Bhai Vir Singh Book Club and Qaumi Awaaz Radio team to extend its services to the wider community.
