Dr. Singh served as India’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leading two consecutive terms as the head of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah, now in Pakistan, Dr. Singh rose to prominence as an economist and policymaker. His tenure as Finance Minister (1991–1996) under Prime Minister P.V. His famous 1991 budget speech remains a milestone in India’s economic history.
As Prime Minister, Dr. Singh oversaw initiatives like the Right to Information Act (RTI), and India’s ambitious nuclear agreement with the United States. Despite criticisms and challenges, his tenure was marked by a focus on inclusive growth and economic stability.
Tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum and global leaders. President of India Droupadi Murmu stated,
