Desecration of Gutka Sahib in Perth – Protest March Held in Melbourne

Melbourne, Australia – A protest march was held in Melbourne today in response to the desecration of the Gutka Sahib at a Gurudwara located in the Canning Vale area of Perth, Western Australia. The incident, which took place recently, has sparked significant outrage and concern within the Sikh community across the country.

The protest saw participation from various Sikh organizations and a large number of community members, who gathered to voice their displeasure and demand respect for Sikh religious texts and practices. The Sikh are making following demands in resolution to this issue:
  • Person arrested in connection with the sacrilege must be treated with harsh penalties including Sec77 and needs to be behind bars for atleast 15 years to set an example to not let anyone repeat this heinous act , (Sec80 A alone isn’t going to serve the justice)
  • Urge all political leaders to stand in solidarity with the Sikh community and condemn this heinous act.
  • Introduce legislation recognizing the sanctity of the Guru Granth Sahib and ensuring that such sacrilegious attacks are met with the utmost legal consequences.
  • Create cyber flag systems to geo plot perpetrators whist they use social media to incite hatred

The Sikh community, both in Perth and across Australia, continues to express deep disappointment over the incident and calls for increased awareness and understanding of their faith.
