The talks between the Bandhi Sikh Sangharsh Committee and representatives of the state government ended in a deadlock even as DGP Sumedh Saini reportedly had a telephonic conversation with Khalsa urging him to break his fast.
No meeting took place today with Khalsa sticking to his stand that he would not take food or give blood and urnie samples for medical examination.
He threatened to discontinue the intravenous feed if the government laid conditions for initiating talks, said Khalsa’s daughter Sarvinder Kaur.
Dr Manjinder Singh Jandi, member of the Sangharsh Committee said: “We had met Khalsa yesterday and he (Khalsa) has assured us that no talk with the government will be initiated without the participation of committee members. We have told the government that till the time Gurdeep Singh Bathinda, Jasbir Singh Khandur, Mohkam Singh and Harpal Singh Cheema are not released no talks will be initiated.”
Mohkam Singh, Gurdeep Singh and Jasbir Singh had attended the first meeting with ADGP intelligence Hardeep Singh Dhillon.
Sources said Jagraon SSP Ravcharan Brar met Khalsa’s daughter at the hospital yesterday. Sarvinder Kaur said the police official made her speak to the DGP who put a condition that Khalsa should end his fast before initiating any further talks.
AAP MLA from Delhi Jarnail Singh today arrived at the hospital, but he was not allowed to meet Khalsa.
The MLA said the way huge police force was deployed at the hospital it appeared that Khalsa was made a captive and not a patient.
As many as 50 supporters of veteran Sikh activist Khalsa, who is on fast since January 16 and was being force fed since July 23, today staged a protest outside DMC Hospital today.
The supporters resorted to protest after they were denied entry in the hospital.
The protesters alleged that the police had arrested Khalsa. “We are not being allowed to meet him. We want to know whether Khalsa has been kept as a prisoner or as a patient,” said Gurjeet Singh, a supporter.
On Friday Simranjit Singh and his supporters had also allegedly scuffled with a policeman after they were denied entry into the hospital.
