07 November – The 80 year old Sikh Pensioner has passed away due to no recovery from the attack he faced off the British woman in Coventry.
Mr Singh died last Sunday after being re-admitted to hospital with a diagnosed illness.
A post-mortem examination conducted on Monday proved inconclusive and police are awaiting the results of further tests.
His family said a few weeks ago that he was too scared to go out since the attack and he had not got over it. Mr Singh’s daughter-in-law, who asked not to be named, said: “He has not been the same, he is nervous and won’t leave the house. He is scared of people coming up to him now, he is uncommunicative. It is unbelievable, I was dumbfounded when I saw the attack”.
It is to be noted that the British teenage girl, Coral Millerchip, 19, who attacked this elderly man, pleaded guilty at the Warwick Crown Court on October 17 for the assault causing actual bodily harm on Trinity Strret Conventry City Centre in the West Midlands region of England on August 10. The teenager, from Wyken, was arrested by police from an address in Gloucester on Aug 16.
The elderly Sikh man Joginder Singh, had suffered a cut nose and swelling at that time after he was punched and kicked. He was hailing from the Canley neighbourhood of the city.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Markham, from Coventry CID, said: “Following the assault Mr Singh was readmitted to hospital and was being treated for a diagnosed condition and at this stage it is unclear if that is directly connected with the assault.
“Our thoughts remain with the family and those affected by Mr Singh’s death and we will continue to work with CPS and the coroner to establish the cause of death.
“Specialist family liaison police officers have been appointed to liaise with Mr Singh’s next of kin and we will continue to support the family at this sad time.”
