Chandigarh – A Punjab and Haryana high court bench on Monday issued notice to Punjab on a petition seeking direction to release Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
The petition was filed by his son, Ravinder Singh stating that family members of Bapu Surat Singh were not being allowed to meet him and that his father had been admitted in the hospital without the consent of his family members and Bapu ji himself.
The directions have been sought to release Bapu Surat Singh from the hospital and not to administer any medicine without his or his family members consent. He was admitted to PGIMER on September 27.
Bapu Surat Singh has been sitting on peaceful hunger strike since January seeking release of Sikhs political prisoners.
The petitioner sought permission from the high court bench to hear the matter on Thursday.
Punjab DGP meets Bapu Surat Singh
Meanwhile, Punjab Director General of Police Sumedh Saini on Saturday night met Sikh activist Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa in PGI here. The DGP was accompanied by Chandigarh SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill and Jagraon SSP Ravcharan Singh Brar.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s son Ravinderjit Singh Gogi and Sikh leaders supporting the fast had alleged that they were not allowed to meet Bapu Khalsa for the last 3-4 days.
It was only after DGP’s meeting with Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa that his son and other family members were allowed to meet him.
