Amritsar, June 6 – Amidst heavy security arrangements by the SGPC, civil administration and the police in the holy city in view of the Operation Bluestar anniversary, pro-Khalistan slogans were raised soon after Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh started addressing sangat on Monday morning.
The Ardaas ceremony started off peacefully, but tension increased at the Golden Temple complex when some youth among the sangat also raised anti-Badal slogans.
SAD (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann sat away from the crowd after he complained of uneasiness due to suffocation. His supporters, however, continued to raise slogans against Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The police detained 15-20 youth for distributing the event. The men were wearing blue T-shirts bearing the slogan “Sikh Referendum 2020”.
Amidst the scuffle, the turbans of MLAs Virsa Singh Valtoha and Harmeet Sandhu came off as they were heckled by supporters of the SAD (Amritsar). The MLAs were escorted to safety by security men.No violence was reported till 9.15 am in or around the Golden Temple complex.
