Hoshiarpur: The police have booked Krishan Dev Khosla, BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha state vice-president, for allegedly hoarding liquor worth Rs 4 crore.
The liquor, kept in four godowns in Dasuya, was probably meant to be distributed among voters ahead of the April 30 Lok Sabha elections in the state.
While two FIRs under various sections of the Excise Act have been registered against Khosla.
An Election Commission flying squad had yesterday seized 66,404 bottles of illegally stored Indian made foreign liquor and the country made variant. Liquor worth Rs 2.33 crore was seized from a godown in Budhobarkat village whereas liquor worth Rs 1.65 crore was seized from another store at Kasba Road in Dasuya town.
During investigations, it came out that the godown at Budhobarkat village was owned by Kanjit Singh and he had rented it out to Khosla. The godown at Kasba Road was owned by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader Vivek Rinka and he too had reportedly rented it out to Khosla.
Excise and Taxation Officer Avtar Singh Kang has sealed both the godowns.
In a separate case, six persons, including Harvinder Singh, Shakini Kumar, Surjit Singh, Vivek Kumar, Sanjeev Pal Singh and Kamal Kumar, have been arrested from a godown in Usman Shaheed village where liquor worth Rs 1.29 crore was illegally stored.
A jeep being used to ferry the liquor was also seized. The accused have been booked under various sections of the Excise Act.
