Big waste paper fire in Sydney

FIREFIGHTERS are battling to control a blaze at a paper mill in Sydney as flames from burning wastepaper are fanned by strong winds.

About 50 firefighters were battling the blaze early on Thursday afternoon after it broke out at the mill in Matraville, near Botany Road.

A Fire & Rescue NSW spokesman said the wastepaper area was well alight and firefighters were trying to stop the fire spreading to the building.

No injuries have been reported.
