The petition filed by the sitting MLA from Bholath for permission to go abroad was today allowed by Justice SS Saron and Justice Ramendra Jain of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. During the hearing, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed her application, arguing that it was feared that she might not return. CBI counsel RK Handa argued that since she was convicted by a lower court and her case was in regular hearing, her application should be dismissed.

Bibi Jagir Kaur was convicted for abduction and forcible abortion of her daughter Harpreet Kaur. Both Bibi and the CBI have filed appeals in the case. Taking up the matter, the court issued notice to the CBI. The case will now come up for hearing on Monday, when the CBI will file its reply on the issue. The CBI has claimed in its appeal that Harpreet was abducted on March 18, 2000, from Chandigarh after being sedated. She was confined at her trusted friend Dalwinder Kaur Dhesi’s residence Jasdil Mansion in Phagwara.

Her pregnancy was terminated against her will on March 20, 2000, at Kartarpur by Dhesi, Bibi’s political confidant Paramjeet Singh and approver Dr Balwinder Singh Sohal.
