After 64 days of Hunger strike and struggle with the Political system, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa on Thursday ended his second hunger strike that he had gone on to secure the release of seven Sikh prisoners languishing in Indian jails.

Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa had been confined to Ambala Civil Hospital since January 10 following serious deterioration in his health. While his vital signs had stabilised after being given intravenous fluids, the doctors had on Wednesday night recommended that he should be shifted to the PGIMS at Chandigarh or Rohtak, where he could be given “total parenteral nutrition (TPN)” following his refusal to take food orally.

However, according to Tribune News and Sikh Channel reports, on Thursday Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa himself took a glass of juice from his son Jhujhar Singh around 7.30 pm after being pursued by his family members and some members of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

Deputy Commissioner Ambala MS Brar and DCP Surinder Pal also met him in presence of his family members. Brar said Bhai Gurbaksh Singh had come to Civil Hospital voluntarily and on Thursday his family expressed the desire to take him home. Following this he ended his fast and left for his village. This statement by DC Brar is contrary to the earlier statement given by Bhai Khalsa himself.

Bhai Gurbaksh Singh in a statement to Sikh channel has also requested Gurpyar Singh and other Singhs worldwide who had started hunger strike in solidarity with him, to end their hunger strikes.
